Reorganization of Revenue Districts and Sub-Registrar Jurisdictions (SRO) in Delhi 2026
Deconstitution & Reconstitution of Districts
The number of administrative revenue districts has been expanded from 11 to 13. Three new districts have been constituted: Outer North, Central North, and Old Delhi. Concurrently, the Shahdara district has been dissolved, with its territorial areas absorbed into the East and Northeast districts.
Decentralization of Registration Offices 03.09.2026
To streamline compliance and reduce pendency, Sub-Registrar (SR) offices have been scaled up from 22 to 39. The administrative framework now guarantees a dedicated Sub-Registrar office for each of the 39 sub-divisions across the NCT of Delhi.
Shift in Territorial Jurisdictions
Major revenue circles and neighborhoods have been remapped. For instance, Patel Nagar now falls under the Central district jurisdiction, while Model Town has been mapped to the Central North district.
Note: Due to these realigned boundaries, previous jurisdictional precedents for property registrations are no longer applicable. Presenting a deed before an officer lacking territorial jurisdiction can jeopardize the validity of the registration under Section 28 of the Registration Act. Before drafting deeds, paying stamp duty, or booking slots, ensure absolute compliance by verifying the updated sub-division and competent Sub-Registrar office.
